Sticks
and stones may break my bones
but words will never hurt me.
A
phrase intoned for self defense
supposed to ease the sting of acid tongues.
What foolishness is this?
Words
can, Oh! yes they can!
pierce, cut, burn and tear
rendering a soul torn asunder.
"Words can't break your bones?" Oh! No!
Instead they break your soul
Hateful
words quickly entrench in one's mind
They spread out, push their roots deep
and stay for all time.
For the rest of your days, my friend...
Those words can hurt again
and again
and again
And they will..because they can
Drumming
into your heart..how bad you are
how useless..profane
How disappointing to the judge
Recurring words sap strength
destroy joy, leave nothing but pain
They hurt....those words
Oh! yes indeed..
Words like these..are agony
See?
Words do hurt.
Sticks
and stones may break my bones
But words can break a life
